Meta is not letting the competition off the hook with the latest innovation and now, the tech giant is reportedly planning a standalone AI chatbot app. The plans entail releasing the app for its AI assistant, Meta AI, to better compete with AI-powered chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.

Further reports from CNBC indicate that Meta could launch the standalone Meta AI app as soon as the company's next fiscal quarter around April to June. Currently, Meta AI is only available to users via a website and Meta’s family of apps, including Facebook and WhatsApp. Meta also has plans to test a paid subscription service for Meta AI, adding unspecified capabilities to the assistant, per CNBC. However, the price for this service is yet to be confirmed.

Building Dominance

Meta is already dominating some tech areas but with Meta AI boasting over 700 million active monthly users, this move is seen as a part of Meta’s multi-pronged strategy to become a dominant force in the AI space. The company has also aggressively released “open” models like Llama, which it believes could foster an ecosystem rivaling that of OpenAI’s.

Meta has set plans in motion to host its first-ever AI-focused developer conference, LlamaCon, in late April.
