Microsoft, Shopify, and other Companies Mandate Employees to Use AI
Companies are discovering the powers of generative AI and Chatbots.
Companies such as Microsoft, Coinbase, and Shopify now require employees to use AI tools like ChatGPT and similar chatbots. Some are even using tracking software to identify which workers aren't complying, among other reasons.
These AI proponents credit the technology for boosting productivity, which could help them reduce their labor costs or increase output.
A lot is at stake. The average amount of money employers spent on AI doubled in 2024 from the year prior to $10.3 million, according to estimates from management-consulting firm Bain & Co.
Yet not all workers are on board the AI train. While more than three-quarters of leaders and managers say they use generative AI several times a week, regular use among frontline employees has stalled at 51%, a survey showed.
