U.S. President Donald Trump has launched the Genesis Mission, a national AI experimentation platform aimed at accelerating scientific discovery and innovation. Established through an executive order, the Genesis Mission integrates America’s supercomputers, national laboratories, and vast federal scientific datasets to create a unified AI-powered research ecosystem.

The mission seeks to transform the pace and scope of American scientific breakthroughs by automating research workflows and training AI agents capable of hypothesis testing and problem-solving in domains such as biotechnology, energy, quantum information, and space exploration. Overseen by the Department of Energy and its Secretary, with day-to-day operations led by Under Secretary Darío Gil, the project embodies a coordinated effort involving government, academia, and private sector partners including Microsoft, IBM, OpenAI, Google, Nvidia , Anthropic, and AWS.

Donald Trump framed the Genesis Mission as comparable in ambition and strategic importance to the Manhattan Project, calling it a foundational step in securing U.S. technological leadership amid global AI competition. The initiative aims to more than double the productivity and impact of federal research within a decade, harnessing AI’s potential to unlock unprecedented scientific insights and innovations.
