X Upgrades Grok AI with Image Editing Powered by Aurora

Elon Musk's X platform has enhanced its Grok AI chatbot with a new image editing feature. This update, discovered on February 1, 2025, significantly expands Grok’s image manipulation capabilities. Users can now modify Grok-generated images by tapping an "Edit" button, which prompts them to input specific editing instructions.

The editing process is powered by the Aurora model, which also drives Grok’s image generation, producing photorealistic and detailed images from user prompts. While not yet as advanced as OpenAI’s in-painting tools, the feature provides a functional and user-friendly way to refine visuals.

Users can access this feature directly within the Grok interface on X after generating an image and selecting the edit option. The rollout appears global, but access to certain advanced features may be limited to specific subscription tiers or regions. This enhancement reinforces X’s ongoing development into a versatile platform for AI-driven creativity and user interaction.

The Aurora model is an autoregressive mixture-of-experts network trained to predict the next token from interleaved text and image data. It has been trained on billions of examples from the Internet, giving it a deep understanding of the world. Aurora has native support for multimodal input, allowing it to take inspiration from or directly edit user-provided images.
