Databricks Launches Genie One, Bringing Agentic AI Coworkers to Enterprises
Databricks has unveiled Genie One, an agentic AI coworker designed to automate workflows across finance, sales, marketing, and operations using company data. The launch intensifies the enterprise AI battle as data platform providers pivot to become AI service providers.
Enterprise AI Gets a New Kind of Coworker
Databricks is making a decisive move into the enterprise AI agent space. The company has announced the general availability of Genie One, an agentic AI coworker that helps business teams automate and orchestrate their work across any type of data inside or outside the Databricks platform. According to Databricks' official announcement, Genie One is part of the broader Genie suite, which now includes Genie Agents, Genie App Builder, Genie Code, and Genie ZeroOps. The message is clear: the company that built its reputation on data infrastructure now wants to be the platform where enterprises deploy AI agents.
"Most enterprise AI today is just guessing with false confidence. That is not good enough for business. If you're a CFO and AI can't tell you why margins changed, or you're a sales leader and it can't find your next upsell, that's not an AI problem, that's a context problem." – Ali Ghodsi, CEO of Databricks
What Makes Genie One Different
Databricks argues that the biggest challenge in enterprise AI isn't model quality—it's context. Important business information is scattered across databases, documents, emails, chats, and meetings, making it difficult for AI to answer questions reliably. The company's answer is Genie Ontology, a self-improving context layer that automatically extracts and continuously updates business knowledge from across Databricks and connected workplace systems. This allows Genie One to retrieve answers from curated, authoritative data through SQL rather than reasoning from fragments spread across documents.
Genie connects to all major AI tools and more than 50 popular apps including Google Drive, Jira, Slack, Confluence, and SharePoint. The Enterprise AI World coverage of the launch highlights that the platform has no seat-based pricing, with organizations receiving up to $10 free for every user every month to pay only for the AI actually used.
What the Genie Suite Actually Does
The Genie family of products is designed for different users across the organization:
- Genie One – AI coworker for business teams that can answer questions, generate reports, create documents, set alerts, schedule tasks, and execute actions through natural language prompts [citation:1][citation:8]
- Genie Agents – Allows teams to save any Genie conversation as a reusable agent that inherits the conversation's memory, sources, and instructions for consistent workflows across teams
- Genie App Builder – A governed "vibe coding" environment where users can upload business context and AI generates a live build plan and working application preview
- Genie Code – An autonomous AI partner for data teams that helps plan, build, and run data engineering, machine learning, and analytics workflows
- Genie ZeroOps – A background agent that monitors data and AI assets, investigates issues, and proposes fixes automatically
Enterprise Adoption and Competitive Positioning
Early customers already include major enterprises. Foot Locker is using Genie Agents to provide executives with AI-driven insights across all North American banners. Albertsons and Rivian are also early adopters, with Rivian executives using Genie to analyze market demand, production operations, and financial metrics.
Databricks CEO Ali Ghodsi noted that the company's AI product business has surpassed $1.7 billion in annualized revenue, up from $1 billion last year. Ghodsi emphasized that Databricks' agents are designed to complement rather than replace products like Anthropic's Claude Code, arguing that the future of AI agents will be specialized: "I think there will definitely be specialization. Data is where our advantage lies, so we focus on that direction.". As noted in a SD Times analysis, all Genie products are governed by Unity Catalog, ensuring data security and compliance across the organization. The company is currently valued at approximately $134 billion and is reportedly in talks for a new funding round that could value it between $165 billion and $175 billion.
