Yahoo Job Posting Wants 10 Years Claude Code Experience — Claude Code Has Been Alive for About One Year

Yahoo's job board has become the latest reminder that corporate hiring departments still struggle to keep up with the pace of the AI revolution.

A listing that went live this week for a "Senior Software Developer (Claude Code Expert)" at Yahoo's Sunnyvale headquarters asks for a minimum of ten years of experience working with Claude Code — Anthropic's AI-powered coding assistant.

Claude Code, in case anyone at Yahoo HR reads this, launched in mid-2025. It does not have ten years of history. It has barely had one.

The posting, which shows up on major job boards and Yahoo's own careers page, is otherwise a straightforward enterprise developer role. Salary: $150,000 to $190,000 annually. Hybrid work model. Responsibilities include leading development of applications using Claude Code as the primary environment, designing scalable systems, and maintaining intelligent applications.

The job requires mid-to-senior level candidates and sits on Yahoo's AI-powered development team.

It's Almost Certain Copy-Paste

What happened is almost certainly that Yahoo's talent acquisition team had a template designed for an internal tool or older technology stack, something that genuinely has existed for a decade, and forgot to update the years-of-experience field when porting the role to a Claude Code-specific position.

It isn't the first time this has happened in tech hiring. When GitHub Copilot launched, similar job postings began appearing that required three to five years Copilot experience. When stable diffusion models became mainstream in 2022, recruiters began asking for "senior prompt engineers" with five years of experience in a field that hadn't existed.

The pattern is clear: job descriptions move slower than the technology they describe.

The Internet Reacts

Social media reaction was swift. Screenshots of the Yahoo listing circulated across LinkedIn and X within hours of the posting going live, with developers pointing out that they would need to have been writing code before Claude Code was even announced to meet the requirement.

One commenter on LinkedIn summarized the mood: "I have eight years of experience, but I will need to retroactively work for two years in secret."

Yahoo has not issued a correction as of publication. The job posting remains live and unchanged. The company did not respond to requests for comment.
