New Release! OpenAI Creates Agent 'Deep Research' Designed to Act Like Analyst

OpenAI is going all out to lead every AI establishment with modern tech releases and now, there's a new artificial intelligence tool on the block. Deep Research is designed to perform time-consuming online research for users about everything, ranging from complex science questions to car recommendations. It's another feather to e, expand the startup’s portfolio of AI agents that act on a person’s behalf.

To get your hands on Deep Research, you must be a paying customer vaus OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot online, the company said in a recent blog post. After a prompt, the tool will respond by scouring words, images, and PDFs online, including files uploaded by the user, to create an in-depth report. Also, OpenAI compared the feature to a research analyst, saying it was created to do in “tens of minutes” what would typically take a person “many hours.”

The year is relatively new and Deep Research represents the second AI agent that the San Francisco-based company has released this year. Last month, OpenAI introduced Operator, designed to book flights, plan grocery orders, and even complete purchases for users. Both services are open to individuals who pay $200 per month for OpenAI’s recently introduced ChatGPT Pro option.

In addition, the two rollouts are part of a wider push in the industry toward agents or AI software that can complete multi-step tasks for users with little or no supervision. Like other startups, OpenAI-backer Microsoft Corp. and rival Anthropic have released their own versions of agent software. These companies hope the AI tools can save users time with their personal and professional tasks, living up to predictions that AI will make people more productive.

Further, OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman has previously mentioned that agents will be “the next giant breakthrough” for AI. His expectations are shaping up to be true, amid recent releases like DeepSeek from Chinese startups that are giving American AI developers a run for their money.
