Meta's Bold Move: $200 Billion AI Data Center Ambitions on the Table!
Meta platform is reportedly in talks to contract a massive AI-focused data center campus across various states in the United States.
Reports indicate that Meta Platforms is in discussions to construct a new data center campus for its artificial intelligence projects. The potential figures associated with this project may exceed $200 billion. Information cited from people familiar with the matter says the project may be completed before the end of the year.
Furthermore, Meta executives informed data center developers that the company is considering building the campus in several states, including Louisiana, Wyoming, and Texas. Reports also suggest that senior leaders have visited potential sites this month.
Matching the Competition
This report has come against the backdrop of the launch of Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s ChatGPT in 2022. Since then, investment in AI has surged as companies across various sectors strive to incorporate artificial intelligence into their products and services. However, one of Meta's spokespersons has denied the report, stating that its data center plans and capital expenditures have already been disclosed and that anything beyond that is “pure speculation”.
Last month, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that the company had plans to spend as much as $65 billion this year to expand its AI infrastructure. In comparison, Microsoft said it has plans to invest up to $80 billion in fiscal 2025 to develop data centers, while retail giant Amazon isn't left out, stating that its 2025 spending would be higher than the $75 billion estimated in 2024.
